9,000 ft., 6am in the morning, just after sunup, I launch West from the North field toward the Lodge. A nice little 4 knot breeze and I'm airborne in about 100 ft..  It takes about 10 minutes to climb to this elevation (11,500 ft) to take my first picture.  10 minutes seem like forever after the "fat" air of Arizona winter.

Turning toward the West, I get a terrific view of the Collegiate Mountain Range and the National Forest a few miles away.  The road points to the canyon that provides  access to the head of Badger Creek.  Great trout fishing.  Continuing on the road takes you through the National Forest to Salida, about 28 miles away.  Things are very green this year.  A refreshing change from the previous 3 years.

The wind is stronger higher and I have  to idle my engine and glide down to a lower altitude to make better headway and do a fly-over of the Lodge.  As you can see, we'll have plenty of room for all out friends' RV's on the July 4th weekend.  The wind is still smooth and about 8 knots.  So I climb back up and do some 360's and wing-overs.  When I glide back down, the wind is still from the original direction and about 5 knots near the ground.  I float in and land like a feather next to my rig.

My coffee is still warm, so I sit on my trailer ramp to sip it and enjoy the morning sun.  I reflect on how fortunate I am to have found this sport and look forward to seeing all my good PPG friends enjoy this same experience on the 4th.  Here's a wave from the LZ to all of you.
