Fifteen was the head count this time as Jeanie and I returned to Rocky Point for one last fling before heading North.  Here's the list:

David and Shirley Cook
Dean and Nancy in their motor home
Mike, Christie, Matt and Mark Willett
Albert, Michelle (Shelly) and Ashley Bright
Mo Sheldon
Bill
And ourselves, Bob (Bubba) and Jeanie Peters

Mo joined us Thursday to share the lunar eclipse with us at the Organ Pipe National Forest on the US/Mexico Border.  We set chairs on top of the camper, popped a beer and waited for moonrise.

When it finally appeared the eclipse was already starting and within  a couple of  hours, we were viewing a russet moon against a field of stars with our binoculars.  This is the only time you can see a full moon and all the stars at the same time.  It looked so 3D.  Like some sci-fi movie sky.

Next morning, Friday, we broke camp and headed for the border to wait for the rest of the group.  Dean and Nancy had a flat on their motor home, so it was about 4pm before we crossed into Mexico and caravaned South to the La Jolla RV on the beach.  This time the the Mexican authority waved everyone else through but me!  They asked me to pull over.  I was thinking I was going to have to go through the same routine we did last time, but all wanted was to show me that my pad lock on my trailer wasn't locked.  I guess we may have them finally trained now to accept PPG's without a fuss.  Time will tell.

Friday evening was Heaven and Hell.  Heaven for Al, Mo and Mike as they wasted no time leaving their families to cruise the beach until almost too dark to land.  Hell for me, because I managed to "blend" my wing through my prop while sucking most of the beach into my air intake!!  David's unit was acting up so he spent the evening being the para-mechanic dude.

After dark we all strolled down the beach to the Playa Bonita for dinner and a drink...er ...a few drinks...ok ... a few pitchers of margaritas and listen to loud music.  Mo decided the be a nice guy and mention to the establishment it was my birthday.  "Do something really special for my amigo, Senior!"  The special thing turned out to be "Let's force feed Bubba a foaming Mickey and see if he can make it back to his RV!"  Thanks, Mo!  That was an evening I'll never forget....er...try to remember?

Saturday was one of those days you can count on one hand in your lifetime that breaks clear and perfect in every way.  Al, Bill and Dean launched jet skis for their wives and friends to use.  Mo and I set up some shade.  Ashley snorkeled.  The wives swam and sun bathed.  The sun shone.  The waves lapped gently.  Kites and wind socks waved.  The vendors vended.  The dolphins chased the jet skis.  The breeze cooled us.  And the ppg pilots flew!

Saturday night was dinner at the Happy Frog.  I didn't attend (still enjoying Mo's Mickey), but I hear it was the usual great time.

Sunday morning was just right.  After breakfast at JR's there was time for one more flight before we all headed back North.  Jeanie and I returned Mo to PRA where we spent the night before joining the Tucson Bunch at Mike and Christie's on Monday.

We'd like to thank everyone for taking Jeanie and I into their lives and sharing some really great times.  We look forward to seeing you all again this fall.

Special thanks to:

  • The Tucson pilots and their families for the special dinner Monday night to re-share the weekend's experiences.
  • Al Bright for doing all that welding and tool loaning to get my unit running again.  Shelly for the great laughs.
  • Mike and Christie and the boys for letting us park our RV at their home and for the help Mike gave me running around finding parts for my unit.
  • David Cook for offering me his unit to fly when mine busted.
  • Dean and Nancy for their kindnesses and excellent company.
  • Bill for hiring my wife as a bounty hunter. (She still wants a tazer.)
  • Bill Rowe and Mo and their families for the great time we had watching the sunset from South Mountain and the dinner overlooking the city Tuesday night.
