PPPPC Welcomes Bill Bishop! Pikes Peak Powered Paragliding Club welcomes Bill Bishop as it's second official member!  Bill found the club site via the search engines.  He contacted Bob Peters and discovered Bob was planning a visit to Albuquerque, New Mexico for a summer fly-in at Grasslands and American Flyer.  Bob invited Bill to meet him at the fly-in.  Bill hopped on his BMW crotch rocket and joined the Fantastico Flyers (the local club) at the launch site Saturday morning.  It wasn't long before Michelle Daniel, American Flyer's best instructor, had Bill strapped into a harness and doing forward inflations.  Bill was so enthused, he bought a new SD Monster and tandem wing before returning to Colorado Springs.  Latest word says his motor is in, but will have to wait for the wing, probably an Elle 42.  It appears Bill is shooting to solo before the October 3-6 Balloon Festival in Albuquerque so he can join the Grasslands Fly-in with 30-40 other ppg pilots!

UPDATE!  Bill Soloed Oct 6th, 2003!  Congrads, Bill !!!

Pikes Peak Powered Paragliding Club Formed January 1st, 2002

Bob "Bubba" Peters, our founder, was the only local member of the club until the summer of 2005.  That's when David "Bo" Beaudette, (Ranger Bo) a retired Army Ranger and Alex  Donaghy (What?! no nick name??) joined the club as the first real, local members.  We have hopes that soon others will join us and enjoy this safe and exciting sport.

If you've ever dreamed of flying, but the danger and expense squelched your enthusiasm, then this is the sport for you.  I personally know pilots from the age of  9 to 72 years old.

How much does it cost?  Depending on what you buy, a complete powered paraglider costs, including training, about $8000.00 (About the price of a cheap used car or a nice ATV).  There are lots of good deals on used gliders from pilots who are moving up to more high performance units.   One important piece of advice, Get  Professional Training!  The web is full of horror stories of friends teaching friends.  If you buy from a dealer you can sometimes get your training FREE.

Just imagine!  You're flying along enjoying a tremendous view when your engine suddenly dies!  What do you do??!  Land.   Yep, just land.  Hey, your parachute is fully deployed before you ever leave the ground! <grin>

Call 719-471-7953 home or 719-659-1346 cell to join or to visit with Bubba.  Or email him at bubba@poweredparaglidingcolorado.com.
